When
American Greetings, the greeting card
company, originated their Strawberry
Shortcake cards in 1979, they did not
realize how this charming little girl
would capture the hearts of little girls
and big girls everywhere. Just a year
later, Kenner decided to make Strawberry
Shortcake “come to life,” and it began
manufacturing her as a doll. She was
a hit, and Strawberry Shortcake was
soon joined by some other berry nice
friends: Blueberry Muffin, Huckleberry
Pie and Apple Dumplin.
Today
on eBay, Strawberry Shortcake is hot.
Recently, a lot of 48 1979 Shortcake
dolls sold for $1,375. Also, a 1983
Kenner Strawberry Shortcake Berry Happy
Home in a factory sealed box went for
$776. However, a Strawberry Shortcake
cookie jar in pristine condition did
not sell for the top offer of $306.
The owner wanted $369.99.
