Who’s
Playing Lisa Simpson’s Saxophone
Today?
Everyone
knows Lisa Simpson is an
extraordinary saxophone
player for a kid, and considering
she is just a cartoon character.
Her alter saxophone playing
ego is really Doug Norwine
of Heritage Auction Gallery
in Dallas. Doug wailed for
Lisa in the show’s early
years and on the top selling
music albums Simpsons Sing
the Blues (which went gold
and platinum) and The Simpson
Yellow Album. Doug and his
saxophone also saw action
in the original Simpson
TV incarnation, Matt Groening's
30-second Life in Hell "bumpers"
on the 1987 The Tracey Ullman
Show.
Recently,
Lisa/Doug’s saxophone sold
at auction for $10,157.50.
Along with the Armstrong
Heritage "Bari"
saxophone, items included
with the sax were all the
reeds, the saxophone case
with "Lisa Simpson"
written on it, a laser copy
of a handwritten note from
Yeardley Smith, voice of
Lisa Simpson, praising Doug
as "The genius behind
lil' Lisa Simpson",
and a signed picture of
Doug Norwine.
But
who’s playing it now? Sorry,
the buyer requested to remain
confidential, but you can
bet, we’ll still hear the
sweet sounds of Lisa playing
a sax for years to come.
